A Condom With Fangs

This is too weird to wrap my head round:

South Africa anti-rape condom aims to stop attacks KLEINMOND, South Africa (Reuters) - A South African inventor unveiled a new anti-rape female condom on Wednesday that hooks onto an attacker's penis and aims to cut one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the world. "Nothing has ever been done to help a woman so that she does not get raped and I thought it was high time," Sonette Ehlers, 57, said of the "rapex", a device worn like a tampon that has sparked controversy in a country used to daily reports of violent crime. Police statistics show more than 50,000 rapes are reported every year, while experts say the real figure could be four times that as they say most rapes of acquaintances or children are never reported. Ehlers said the "rapex" hooks onto the rapist's skin, allowing the victim time to escape and helping to identify perpetrators.

Hm. Will there ever be a male volunteer to test this prototype? Be good, be bad & be safe.

I'm all for a bit of modern vagina denta, but does she have to wear it all the time? I better go read the link before I ask questions, I guess. But it reminds me of this story in a horror/erotica anthology I read, in which a dentist is in danger of death (the little head first) from a seductive Mountain girl with teeth in her hooha.

I remember some Native American myth I came across when I was in grade school that mentioned a woman with teeth in her hooha who'd seduce men. Odd how that's all I remember. :-)

Meljean, by the looks of it they would have to wear it all the time.

It is a travesty that women are being brutalized in such a way. With the myths that abound on AIDs can we hope that a new myth will come about through this device? Women can destroy a man that tries to have sex with her without her consent? I hope so.

A step in any direction to getting safe would be beneficial and if it takes this, then so be it. I'm figuring it is the men in our society that are talking about it being brutal and inhumane.

As for volunteers - not likely, unless they are into that ;)

"But the "rapex" has raised fears amongst anti-rape activists that it could escalate violence against women."

Escalate the violence against women? Are they kidding? If a man has his dick in you when you don't want it, how much more violent can you get. I'd rather take a blow to the head anyday than have some scum's pecker in me. *shudder*

"If a victim is wearing such a device it may enrage the attacker further and possibly result in more harm being caused," said Sam Waterhouse, advocacy co-ordinator for Rape Crisis."

Well if his penis is burning, then that will surely be where his attention will be directed?

I'm all for anything that helps prevent a woman getting raped.

As you say, I can't imagine who the hell is going to test it.

What worries me about it is that even more children will become victims now. They'll go straight for the baby girls because they won't want to take the chance of finding out if the woman has trick up sleeve...if you know what I mean.
