Romance Authors' Names
There is a few romance authors' names that make me question their sanity for not adopting a pen name or two, but there are some that makes me question my sanity for not getting their names right. Names that make my head spin:
- Jacquie D'Alessandro A name I'd not like to see again. I constantly get both names wrong, ranging from Jacqueline to D'Arcy [don't ask]. Thankfully, her web site address is a lot easier to memorise: jacquied.com
- Gaelen Foley My attempts to remember how to spell her first name vexed me a-many times. Gael isn't hard to forget, so why do I constantly get her name wrong, ffs? Whenever I write her name, I usually think, "Gealan? Gelean? Gaelan? Fuck. Gael...in? Gaelin! No, no. Gaelan? Hm, Gaelun?" Edited: I should explain why I have problems spelling her name. As many know, Gaelen is a modern male name, so it's extremely difficult for me to remember that she - as a female - has this name, hence my stupidity.
- Jude Deveraux When I write her surname down, I always have a twig of doubt that I have it right because, mostly, I have a long-time friend whose surname is Devereaux.
- Jo Beverley My failure to remember how to spell her surname baffles me. Actually, I have a friend whose name is Beverley and she was irritated with me enough to allow me - the only one allowed in the entire country - address her in writing as 'Bev'. :D
- Liz Carlyle I have a habit of spelling her surname as Carlysle, mostly because of 'Carlisle', a town not far from Newcastle where I used to live. It's rather embarrassing because Carlyle is quite a popular surname over here.
- Catherine Mulvany This is an embarrassing admission, but I tend to spell her surname as 'Mulfey'.
- Cheryl Reavis Another embarrassing admission: I tend to spell her surname as Reiver. I think now I'll quietly dissolve into a pool of shame.
- Marsha Canham I tend to spell her first name as 'Martha'. God knows why.
- Dallas Schulze I have never ever get her surname right. For some reason I always think it has to have a 't' in there somewhere. Such as Shultz, Shultze.
- Heather Graham Pozzessere Here, I tend to spell her surname as 'Pozzessesse' or, at one time, 'Puzzesese'

I was only vaguely interested in this entry until I got to "Mulfey" . . . that sort of stopped me in my tracks with a full-fledged giggle. How cute. Hehehe.
She should immediately change her name to accomodate you, Maili.
Still chuckling.

I am SO bookmarking that This and That site. I think I'd love to try to do something like that someday.

What, no Laura Lee Guhrke?

Bev - Someday, I'll get you. Someday ...
Nicole - I did think of asking for a quote, but I'm afraid that the cost of shipping it over would amount to buying a three-bedroomed house, giving Will a heart attack in process. :D I really, really want that floor-to-ceiling bookcase. The day you get a chance to commission him to do a job is the day you'll blog about it, right?
Wendy - I never had problems with LLG's surname because 'gurkha' is a pretty common word over here. So, it's just a case of relocating one letter and then, replace 'a' with 'e'. I don't think I'll ever figure out the way my brain works. Why is it easy for me to get Guhrke, but not Carlyle? Let me think. Oh, I get it. It begins with S and ends with Y, with a D in middle.

lol honestly, I've seen the book bookshelves before, so I figured I'd just make my own versions. It's not a completely unique concept.

The sock answer is that the washing machine and/or dryer take all the accumulated lint to make extra socks. So it's not that you lose socks; instead you actually get extra and that confuses the hell out of you.
This is stage one of household appliances' plan to take over the universe.

I never get Beverely or Schulze right, and for some strange reason I completely confuse Gaelen Foley and Gayle Callan (sp).
Socks are the bane of my existance these days, yesterday I gave my son a matching pair to put on and when we reached my SIL's he had on one gray and one white--and I swear I gave him a matching pair white with a gray bottom. Maybe I shouldn't bother matching them and just throw the whole lot into his draw.

I laughed at Wendy's author because her name always makes me think pickles.

Over the years, the one author name I see consistently spelled wrong is Bertrice Small's. Usually people write "Beatrice". I wonder if it drives her mad?
2/26/2006 08:18:00 pm
You mean it's not Beatrice?
That was not a joke - I guess because I don't read her books I'd never really paid attention before. I bet it really does drive her crazy.
Oye.

I am surprised Gayle Callan sales books at all. I can't say the number of times I have moved her books because people read the font as Gallan.
I have always wondered why they don't change it.

Sybil -- you want something from me, don't you? Come on, mite, spill it out.
Nicole - it's new to me. You can make one? Well, did you know my birthday is this July? *blink*
Kerry - OMG. That has to be the funniest I read today. The sad thing is I can believe that last line. I seriously can.
Does this mean it's time for little men in white to come and get me again?
Tara Marie - thank you. Oh, I frequently confuse Gayle Callan with Gayle Wilson AND Gayle Buck. Sad cow, I am. re: socks. LOL!
Kristie J - now you mention it ... :D
P. Devi / Bev BB - Ohh! I had her on as a guest author for Romantic Times's msg board a couple of years ago. In email, I addressed her as Beatrice and she never said a word. When I, in middle of our correspondence, finally noticed my mistake, I was mortified and owned up to it. IIRC, she doesn't mind if readers make this mistake, but she does mind if publishers or journalists do. Fair point. :>
Bev BB -- *arches eyebrow*
Sybil - Owie. There is a romance author whose surname starts with 'S' and one of her book covers has 'S' in this very flowery, cursive style, making it as if 'S' is 'G'. That book always ends up in 'G' section. :> ... hm, who's that author? *struggles to remember* Probably Gallen(!)
