Dashing By

I'm going to have to give up apologising for lack of postings otherwise you'll get a fill to last you a lifetime. In short: my youngest sibling is handling it very badly, so my life is pretty much revolved around her. That said, I've started reading! That's a bonus, IMO. I'm on a short break, so I'll reduce myself to handing out grades, instead of penning long-winding "reviews". A Quick Guide to Understanding McVane's Grades: A: Fantastic! A Must Buy! If you're broke, sell your kidney! B: It's pretty good. Worth buying. C: Hm, so-so. Don't spend a penny on it. Get it from your library. D: If you find it in a dustbin, read it. But not if it's covered with food remains. F: Do spend a penny on it.

  • Godheads - Emily Devenport - B [Devenport definitely has all signs of being a buried treasure.]
  • Be Careful of What You Wish For - Alexandra Potter - B
  • Once I Was a Princess - Jacqueline Pascarl-Gillespie [non-fiction. Couldn't finish it because I felt depressed and the book was depressing, not a good combination.]
  • Valentine's Day Is Killing Me - MaryJanice Davidson, Leslie Esdaile, Susanna Carr - D
My current TBR pile on the bedside table: Does anyone know if Emma Holly will ever write a follow-up to The Demon's Daughter? I'm really in mood for a steampunk historical romance. Be good, be bad & be safe.

Why, yes, Emma Holly will. In this interview at Squawk Radio, she says:

My current project is PRINCE OF ICE, a follow-up to THE DEMON'S DAUGHTER that takes place in a technologically advanced pseudo-sorta China. It's turning out to be one of my odder stories, but since it's uniting all my favorite genres--fantasy, erotica, and romance--I'm having fun with it. The basic idea is one I've been playing around with for many years, but the timing never seemed quite right until now, which is a challenge in itself. You always want to do your own dreams justice!

I was just thinking of Emma Holly too, from your post over at Beverly's.

GODHEADS looks interesting, but I see it's a sequel -- did you read the first book, or did it stand alone?

Maili -- so glad that you are enjoying Devenport. Have you read my favorite from her, Larissa? Or Shade, which is also good?

Oh, and in case you're interested, she also has a book called Broken Time written as Maggy Thomas and two, Belarus and Enemies, written as Lee Hogan.

P Devi -- whoo hoo! That's great. Thanks for the heads up. :D

Meljean - No, I didn't read the first book as I couldn't find EGGHEADS. Her books are extremely difficult to find. I had to pay through my nose to get GODHEADS, the only book available over here. :P

Beverly - no, I haven't read LARISSA, but it's on my Watch list. I have given a secondhand bookseller the list for him to track down her books. So fingers crossed that he'll have better luck than me. :D I'll check out books under her other names. Cheers for that. Thanks for mentioning her in the first place. I really like her writing style. And the heroine is the type I like. :)
